A Touch of Heather at Mallory's Photography and Design
In the wonderful world of photography, there are many different directions an artist can go. So what's different with A Touch of Heather? Here is her story in her own words, followed by how she may be different from other photographers.
"Sixteen years ago, I went across the street to have some photos taken of my 2 year old daughter. The photographers offered their services in exchange for them to use some of the photos as advertisement. Once the pictures were developed, and were in my hand, I was practically brought to tears. I had never seen pictures that had actually brought out the character and emotion of a person. The pictures were so beautiful! It was at that moment that I wanted to be a photographer."
"I had always been very interested in taking pictures, but now it was time to put my finger to the "button", so to speak, and really put my skills to the test. The photographers that took my daughters pictures, hired me to do some cold calling, and soon found out that I was a better asset behind the camera, then on the phone. I was thrilled!"
"While I was working in this studio, I had also learned some much needed editing skills and started getting really good at taking old vintage photos, restoring them, and bringing them back to life for our clients. There was no better payment for me, than watching the tears roll down their face when they saw their photos restored and renewed."
"Over the course of a year, I started getting burned out on taking pictures in the studio, with studio lights, and mostly babies who did not cooperate, and parents who wanted their 3 week old baby to smile. It just wasn't where my passion was taking me. It was seeming to be an assembly line of sorts, and it was then that I asked to go on a some wedding shoots."
"My boss was hesitant because I was the only one able to "man the shop" while he was at a wedding, however, I didn't let it go, and he eventually caved. It was that first wedding that I realized, this is where I belong. Outdoors, natural light, candid photos, mixed in with the posed photos. Random shots that brought out the innocence, or possibly even the rebel in a person. It was at this time that I decided to venture out on my own, and A Touch of Heather Photography was born."
"I became a stay-at-home mom, with 3 children while the photography world grew by leaps and bounds, while the photography world grew in leaps and bounds. By the time I started getting the "itch" to do photography again, everything had gone digital, and I was not in the market for the "semi truck" of cameras that was needed to do what I did. Don't get me wrong, I still took photos with my little point and shoot camera, and even photographed a wedding for a friend. It was at that time, I really found out how my professional editing skills had become."
"Since then, Kerrie asked me to come aboard, and allowed me to work under the "umbrella" of Mallory's Photography and Design. She has encouraged me, and helped me through some of the tougher times, and I am indebted to her. That is how it became "A Touch of Heather at Mallory's Photography and Design. It's just my little touch, within her growing company, and we have been an asset to each other."
"I had also been blessed with the money to purchase my new camera, and get back into the trenches. I started doing weddings again, as well as senior portraits, and was the only photographer to shoot an up-and-coming, celebrity impersonator, who has taken the photos internationally.
"My current situation has inspired me even more to continue pursuing different avenues of photography, and I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds!"
"I have never been more grateful for the people in my life, who have helped lay the stepping stones in front of me. You know who you are and I thank you infinity x infinity times!"
So what are some differences with A Touch Of Heather at Mallory's Photography and Design? A main difference is Heather gives you EVERY photo taken! The good, the bad, the best! She realizes that what is "good" to her, may not be as good to another eye. Heather says, "Photographers don't always know the personality or character of the person we are shooting. So we may think that person is genuinely smiling, but when "mama" looks at it, they may see that the smile is forced." So Heather gives you EVERY photo on a CD or a flash drive that you provide. From all those photos, Heather picks a minimum of 20 photos, and edits them.
To the left is an example of the different phases a photograph may go through when edited by A Touch of Heather. For example: Using the collage on the left, Jane Doe's son just celebrated his one year birthday, and the parents wanted to feature him in different ways. Heather will take one of the hundreds of pictures she likes, and give it to you RAW, within the "original" folder on the CD or flash drive. (top left photo) From there, she will edit the photo. First making basic edits to enhance the photo, such as brightening, blemish control, teeth whitening, etc. (bottom left) Then, she will turn it into a black and white photo. (top right) From there, she may add embellishments such as, a name, (middle right) and possibly putting some cute little sunglasses on him, or other embellishments. Then saving all of them for you to decide on your personal preference.
Another example of how A Touch of Heather may be different is, you will have 2 weeks to review and share the photos, and maybe decide that you really like a certain photo that is still in "raw" form, and would like some editing done. Maybe there is a fire hydrant in the back ground, and you would like it taken out. Or perhaps there was a stain on your shirt that you didn't notice, or you just want to look a tiny bit thinner. Call Heather within 2 weeks from the day you received your CD, and she will edit up to 5 more poses for free!
An additional example of how A Touch of Heather may be different is, when you receive your CD or flash drive with your photos on it, you will receive a paper stating that she releases anyone to print photos of these pictures, and will be free to have your beautiful pictures printed wherever you choose, and possibly saving you a significant amount of money.
